about

Shoes to Fill is the last song on the album. The song features my dad Rick Davie, making him the only vocal feature. The song focuses on the lessons learned growing up as an artist/musician, the trials of a musicians father, and how the lessons I talk about in the song will be passed down. My entire family has always influenced me musically and this song is long over due by the two of us. There is a great contrast involved, we're talking old and new, classic and new age. We both come from a singing background and have developed our own unique but eerily similar voices. Being in the studio with my pops was an experience and a half. I'll be taking it to my grave! You haven't lived until you've experimented by putting autotune on your dads voice. It's a good thing we didn't keep the autotune on there, but it's still funny to know I've heard it. There's also one part in the song where I honestly tried really hard to sound like a backstreet boy.

lyrics

Id give my shoes to someone who cant walk or run
so they don't end up walkin towards a loaded talkin gun
id tell him. watch it son
you don't know a criminal until you've walked with one
until you've talked like some
these rap beats make imposta
makin good people monstas
you're scared to move but if you don't you'd think its gonna cost ya
and it probably will
maybe you should run a drill
test the water wipe it off ya
in with the towel when they toss ya
but did you know he's a soldier
and, as he gets older
the size of his sneakers will rise
and over time
he'll a new pair and walk a straight line

you clench your fists
you see your path
when im not there with you to help you understand
theres more to life here
than meets the eye
i hope these shoes of mine
will help you stride

You're gonna find that
most of the rhymes on this fine track
are irrelevant from the first and the last rap
it might be hard to follow at first
but thats the point whats worseis
the lyrics all make sense and Im a real person
vie tried to make the lyrics i spit
come off as witty
ever since, i was just a young prince
waiting for his throne
Im Still not there and lifes still not fair
at least ill never have to do it alone
have you been in my shoes before
if you haven't i suggest you stay in yours
cause one mile, in these old kicks
all the steps you'd miss
people you wondering where you came from
where you been

you clench your fists
you see your path
when im not there with you to help you understand
know, theres more to life here
than meets the eye
i hope these shoes of mine
will help you stride

Mr, Mr, did ya you put your name on the dotted line
sign a paper when prints too fine
did ya get ta set the bar to high
hit the ceilin fan jumping off the couch tryin to fly
why, you ask yourself
am I, two nickels too short for a dime
is it love that you're trying to buy
one rule of thumb that follow "everybody lies"
even when they love you
and they look you in the eye
one thing that you can trust though
when your questions, they don't seem find the answers yo
is that the clock keeps ticking
while you walkin on a mission
wear your souls in your souls
steppin on while you listen
to some good vibes
you're gonna get by
i can tell you
all that walkin,
all that talkin
if you do it to often it ain't good for your mind
